I just received from ProPiano Esther Budiardjo's recording of
the Java Suite, and found it a real gem.
Careful attention to all details, superb voice leading,
luxurious sound, careful voicing of melody notes, beautiful
musicianship. Curiously, ProPiano bills the
recording as a world première. We must take this to mean "on CD".
It had been recorded in the late 1980s by a
certain Benno Schmidtbauer, about whose musical
and technical abilities I prefer
not to comment for fear of saying rude things.
