To anyone out there:
Does anyone know whether Godowsky's own piano roll of the Sonata has ever been found, and whether someone might be interested in putting it onto a silver disc? And is there any other recording of the Piano Sonata complete? I remember as a lad of sixteen buying the Madge recording of the work as soon as it had been given birth, and being disappointed with it immediately. And regrettably I still have a feeling of disappointment with it, although I am quite a fan of Madge's. (Though not of the Godowsky series, sadly.) But if Hamelin does not like the work, he probably won't commit it to disc. I asked Carlo Grante whether he'd do it, and he said "yes. I plan to record all of it." Wow! Details, anyone?
Another question I've got concerns those missing Godowsky studies. I may have asked someone on the board before, so forgive me if I seem redundant, but does anyone know whether or not those studies have been found. Hamelin I believe alluded to their being lost in IPQ recently (their new, reader-friendly version!) but has anyone seen fit to contact Leopold Gershwin Godowsky III about this? And if not, does anyone have any idea how to contact him? I heard he lives in Connecticut-- any good samaritans out there to help out a fellow Godowsky-ite?
Thanks,
