A couple of comments have tried to make the point that Mr. Madge should be commended for his efforts at attempting the studies--even if the results fall a bit short. Here is the problem: the commercial release of his inept performances (from whoever may deserve the blame) has perpetuated an utterly false impression of the music, causing many (those with little or no basis for comparison) to wonder why the Chopin-Godowsky Studies are held in such high esteem. To submit an extreme analogy: does it make any sense to commend an incompetent brain surgeon for his efforts if the patient ends up dead through a botched operation?
