I feel Mr Manildi is too kind in his choice of adjectives to describe the criminal so called playing of Madge. Godowsky's music is behind the 8 ball before it is even heard thanks to myopic
morons like Harris Goldsmith and his ilk of anti
transcription critics and pianists. So a travesty like the Madge set of Etudes does far worse than perpetuate a false notion of the music but gives
more ammunition to the urtext fetishists and the to serve the composer crowd as well the CD buyer or concert goer who has either heard Madge's disc
or have never been exposed to Godowsky's genius both in arrangement and original works. Thank goodness for four recent champions of Godowsky Carlo Grante, Marc Hamelin,Francesco Libetta and Konstantin Scherbakov. Ineptitute and incompetance should never be praised or defended especially when a disgracfully maligned genius is the victum of that individuals shortcomings.
